Biography
Jean-Baptiste Gartner is Assistant Professor of Health Services Management in the Management Department of the Faculty of Administrative Sciences at Laval University, Quebec, Canada. After working for almost twelve years in the Luxembourg health sector, he completed a doctorate on the theme of care pathways as a method of optimising the organisation of health care and services for and with the patient. Member of 5 research centres, he has co-created two international communities of practice involving researchers from several French-speaking countries and patient partners, one on Care Pathways and the other on Learning Health Systems (www.ssats.ca). He has already published in international scientific journals such as Revue Francaise de Gestion, The International Journal of Health Planning and Management, BMJ Open, Health Services Insights and BMC Health Services Research. His research interests focus on the management of the health system and health and social services organisations. He is developing a number of research projects in cross-functional management and proximity management from a strategic, organisational and operational perspective. He is particularly interested in methods and tools for analysing, optimising and evaluating care pathways as an intervention to improve the organisation of healthcare and health services in a systemic and national approach. He teaches a number of MBA-level courses in the fields of healthcare organisation management, integrated management and change management. He is also involved in the Programme National en Développement des Leaders of the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux, a compulsory programme for directors of healthcare organisations in the province of Quebec.
