HWL AWARDS 2023

Promoting innovation and hospital progress

The Luxembourg Hospital Federation (FHL), its partners and the European Association of Hospital Managers (EAHM) take advantage of Healthcare Week Luxembourg 2023, to present awards to the most promising start-ups and projects in the field of innovation.


Three awards categories The FHL, the Luxembourg Ministry of the Economy and Luxinnovation will be giving the start-up of the year prize to a particularly ambitious and promising project that contributes to the improvement of the health sector. The FHL and the Society of Medical Sciences of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg will select a medical project carried out in direct or indirect collaboration with a hospital that provides a relevant solution for the healthcare sector. The European Association of Hospital Managers (EAHM-AEDH-EVKM) will award a prize to the best innovative project in the field of hospital management in Europe and neighbouring countries. 

Registration for entries is now open in each category, three finalists will be selected by a jury composed of healthcare professionals. The finalists will then be invited to make a live pitch in front of the audience on 20 and 21 September.

Only one candidate per category will be awarded a prize at the end of the presentations. Anyone wishing to enter the HWL AWARDS 2023 has until 11 August 2023 to send a completed submission to: hwl-awards@fhlux.lu by filling out the application form for the category of their choice.

A special jury prize will be supported and awarded by the Luxembourg Ministry of Social Security in one of the three categories.

The results of the pre-selection process will be announced by the end of August 2023 at the latest.

Competing for the Medical Research Award are

  • Centre de Radiothérape François Baclesse (CFB) : NHL-CHIREX : Multiprofessional cross-curricular program of theoretical, procedural, technical and non-technical teaching applied to radiotherapy in the Greater Region 
  • ParkinsonNet Luxembourg: Improving quality of life for people with Parkinson’s through quality-based integrated healthcare 
  • University of Luxembourg: Personalized OrthoCare: Advancing Pelvic Fracture Treatment

Wednesday, 20 September Start-up Award

  • Wavy Meet: Remote Cardiac Rehabilitation Platform 
  • MediNation: Jobs in healthcare and social care in Luxembourg

Thursday, 23 September EAHM Innovation in Hospital Management Award

Thursday, 21 September 2023, from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm, in the conference room (Main stage): for one category: 5-minute presentation and 5-minute Q&A per project out of a total of 3 projects. 
Candidates will compete in the "EAHM Innovation in Hospital Management Award" category. 

Competing for the EAHM Award « Innovation in Hospital Management” are

  • South / South West Hospital Group (SSWHG-Ireland): Transforming theatre, a perioperative improvement initiative across 10 hospitals in the south/southwest hospital group (SSWHG) 
  • General Hospital Maria Middelares Ghent: Implementation of a rapid-recovery as part of patient flow optimization 
  • Centre Hospitalier Emile Mayrisch (CHEM): The Planning Unit; Support service for the accessibility of the appointment booking center for medical imaging examinations
